Lloyd, a small but highly distinctive community, first developed in the late 1820s around Bailey’s Mill, and Lloyd later grew into a village after the railroad arrived in 1858. The community prospered from its founding as a village in 1858 until around 1920, and that the railroad depot became the focal point around which Lloyd developed.
Jefferson County describes itself as predominantly rural, with agriculture as the traditional base of the economy, while also noting that nearly half of the non-farm workforce commutes outside the county, many toward Tallahassee. Lloyd fits that pattern especially well because it sits in the county’s western section, close to Leon County and within the Tallahassee metropolitan area. This makes Lloyd an important market where residential, commuter-household, small-business, traveler-serving, and community-facility demand meets the practical need for dependable, responsive propane delivery.
Located in western Jefferson County between Tallahassee and Monticello, Lloyd sits just south of Interstate 10 at Exit 217, with State Road 59 and County Road 158 helping define the community’s crossroads setting. The village is located between I-10 and the CSX rail line, roughly midway between Tallahassee and Monticello, while I-10 forms Lloyd’s northern edge and connects the community west to Tallahassee and east across North Florida.
